Monicah Yator is an Indigenous rights advocate and the Founder of the Indigenous Women and Girls Initiative (IWGI) in Kenya. With over 15 years of experience in the Baringo landscapes, she specializes in agroecology and regenerative rangeland management. Monicah serves as the Co-Chair of the Global Agroecology Coalition and is a leading voice for pastoralist food sovereignty and land tenure. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between global environmental policy and local indigenous wisdom, specifically through the implementation of nature-based solutions and intergenerational knowledge transfer. Through IWGI, she empowers indigenous women to lead landscape restoration projects, ensuring that climate action is gender-responsive and community-owned. Monicah is a member of the PARAAN Alliance and is currently overseeing GEF/SGP-funded restoration initiatives that demonstrate how indigenous-led stewardship can reverse land degradation in Africa’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs).
